Post Wallet

I've been working on this wallet for a couple years now, adding a millimeter here, taking one off there. I'm happy with how it has developed. I've had to slowly thin out the leather I've been using too. A lot of leather goods often use material that is overly thick, which can be good, but for a piece that will be touched so often, I wanted it to feel pliable. It's a wallet, so pocket space need to be highly respected too.

The most common fail point on leather goods (and most soft goods for that matter) is the stitching. Rivets are often used to reinforce when a seam needs a little extra oomph. I wanted to make a wallet using only rivets, bypassing seams all together. It was a great challenge, coming up with an origami-like pattern.

I let the pockets outline dip toward the center of the card slot. It makes a nice little envelope point that feels familiar. The swooping wings slowly start to show a little bit on the outside as the outer layer molds around them with use. It's a nice organic effect.

Some of the final wallets have been treated with oil to darken them. A beeswax mixture was used to condition all of them. With leather as thin as 2.5-3 ounces, burnishing doesn't really do much to the edge. I could have applied a more aggressive finishing agent, but skipping it left the leather totally natural (the leather is vegetable-tanned).
